This is the 20th edition of the DEFINITION SERIES, four years after the launch of the first series in March 2015, bringing the total number of titles to 37. With a focus on the old EMI label masterpieces that had been buried, various sound sources have been reprinted, but there are still many powerful items on the EMI label. Therefore, to commemorate the 20th release, we have decided to systematically release some of Klemperer's sound sources on an irregular basis. In addition, the book is reprinted with a new commentary by a leading authority on the current Klemperer's interpretation and a separate "Klemperer's Chronology" (common).
This is a collection of all 14 Mozart's symphonies that Klemperer's recorded on the old EMI label from 1956 to 1964, including new and old recordings of "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik". In the past, six of the symphonies were released on SACD, but this time, out of the three symphonies of No. 38-40, the old version of No. 38 and 39 recorded in 1956, No. 40 recorded in 1962, No. 25, 29, 31, 33, 34 and three orchestral works are released on CD for the first time in the world. This is a limited edition of 1,000 sets with a serial number. For this reissue, the original master was digitized at 96kHz/24bit and mastered separately for SACD and CD layers. In doing so, we compared the sound sources with those released in the past as much as possible, and tried to optimize the mastering process by respecting the original analog master tapes in order to get the most out of the music.
There are a total of 16 symphonies on the EMI label, including monaural recordings, including re-recordings since No. 25. It was No. 41 that prompted EMI producer Walter Legg (1906-79) to sign a recording contract with Klemperer (the first recording was also No. 41 recorded in October 1954). Although stereo recordings are not included in this volume because it contains a collection of stereo recordings, it was Mozart that led to the production of many recordings that would go down in history (the last session recording of his life was the Serenade No. 11 in September 1971). Originally, Klemperer was an avid lover of Mozart, and this commitment can be heard in the remaining recordings. Please enjoy Klemperer's Mozart in high sound quality to the fullest.
In this series, the SACD layer aims for a high resolution and rich soundstage with extended high frequencies and soft nuances in the SACD layer, and the CD layer aims for a solid sound and a real tone with a sense of reality.
