Blandford Press | 1985 | ISBN: 0713713895 | English | 168 pages | PDF | 151.22 MB
Part I (pages 8 - 86) describes the giant conventional submarines of the 1916 to the mid 1940s era. Part II describes the midget submarines of the roughly the same time period. This book offers the most detail on the giant submarines developed by Britain, Germany, the US, Japan, and France in the 1920s through the 1940s.
Chapter 1 describes the large German cargo submarines of the "Deutschland" class that were constructed in 1916. Chapter 2 describes the fiascos of the British "K" class steam turbine submarines. Chapter 3 (my favorite) describes the British "M" class submarines equipped with a 12-inch gun. Chapter 4 describes the British "X" class cruiser submarines and also the French "Surcouf" of the 1920s. Chapter 5 describes the various aircraft - carrying submarines developed by Britain and Japan in the 1930s and 1940s. Chapter 6 describes the large American minelaying submarines "Nautilus" and "Argonaut."
Chapters 7 through 12 describe midget submarines, particularly the Italian and Japanese midgets. The British "XE" craft are also described. Chapter 12 discusses the Japanese midget submarine program of the 1930s and 1940s in detail.
