James Franco's 'Sal' shows the last day in the life of Sal Mineo (Val Lauren), the star of the Hollywood cult flicks 'For They Don't Know What They Do' and 'Exodus'. After Mineo's career had taken a deep turn in recent years, he tries to get back into the game as a theater actor. Mineo was the first major Hollywood star to openly show his homosexuality, which has always been poison for a career. Sal spends his last hours with theater rehearsals, with training in the gym, he visits his friend Mikey, talks about his time with James Dean, plays with the neighbor's dog - banal everyday things, but which get their meaning through his senseless death at the hands of a petty criminal - he was stabbed to death during a robbery.
