Wish you were here reflektiert die damaligen Ansichten der Band über das Musikbusiness und setzt sich mit den Themen Abwesenheit und Verlust auseinander, insbesondere im Klassiker Shine On You Crazy Diamond, einem Tribut an Gründungsmitglied Syd Barrett.
