Learn Houdini from the ground up with this series from Adam SwaabVolume 1of Learn Houdini is a gentle introduction to the program. I cover the user interface and key concepts of the software, listed in the chapter Descriptions below. I wrap of this first volume with a demo lesson, showing the start to end of a sample project.
This volume of the course is not an extensive introduction to all things Houdini, but it is the foundational level that will help get you started with the program and on to the more complicated aspects of the software. And, it's a prerequisite for future planned volumes.
Welcome to .Volume 2of Adams Learn Houdini Tutorial series. After covering the basics of the Houdini interface and general concepts in Volume 1, we are now ready to dive into some more complex setups. In this volume, we are going to go through three great examples, ranging from easy to hard, to add to your Houdini learning.
In the first example, we are going to use a lot of nodes and techniques to model a wooden step-stool in SOPS. It may sound simple, but there's a lot of really nice techniques in here that will extend to future models you will build in Houdini.
Our second example dives into data-driven setups and procedural animation. We will import stock performance data generated from a CSV file, and create a setup that visualizes the data and animates the stocks' performance from week to week.
And, finally, we'll take a look at a complex space-filling algorithm that uses some tricky for-each loop setups. This scene will go all the way to a final render in Karma XPU in Solaris.
There's a little something in here for all skill levels of Houdini!
Welcome to .Volume 3of Adam Swaab's Learn Houdini Tutorial series.
In this volume, we are going to make things move with nodes and code. (A lot of code, so buckle up!) In particular, we are going to do a lot of work with particle systems, both the built-in one in Houdini (POPS), and our own particle system that we will write from scratch! We'll cover how particle systems work, how to influence and control them, and how to get around some common problems that can make or break a simulation.
We are also going to look at procedural motion, using Solver SOPS and transformation matrices.
This volume is for those looking to better understand how code-based motion works, and also looking to deepen their understanding of particle systems. As mentioned above, there will be a lot of VEX coding, so please make sure you have a decent grasp of VEX basics before jumping in.
