Description
Welcome to course 14 :)
This is course 14, and it's made up of lessons 117 to 125, with a little half lesson in the middle just for some extra information that I couldn't quite fit anywhere else!
The start of this course is all about
PREPOSITIONS
. Or, more specifically, how to use prepositions with verbs. We're going to focus each lesson on a different preposition, and then we'll look at what verbs use each preposition. There are certain verbs that are always followed by
de, and there are other verbs that are always followed by à. Then, there's a group of verbs that can be used with both
de and à! Finally, there are verbs that take different prepositions - and those verbs are what I've dedicated the half lesson to.
If you've ever looked in a French dictionary, you might have come across some little abbreviations:
qch and qqn. Well, in this lesson, we're going to look at what these mean, and we'll look at how they can help us improve our language skills.
We're going to look at different ways to say what you like and dislike using some new verbs, and we're going to learn a new phrase, venir de, which can be used to talk about what you've just done.
je viens de voir Marie - I've just seen MarieWe're going to be looking at lots of new verbs and adjectives to help us talk about our family, friends and relationships. We'll get a Vocabulary Expansion Sheet
with lots of words and phrases for talking about different characteristics.
A bit of time in this course will be spent writing some motors for talking about our jobs. So, we'll need some vocabulary to help us tackle that topic. And we'll also be looking at a new negative phrase that will come in useful:
ne . rien.
Finally, just like always, we'll be expanding our vocabulary with lots of new nouns, adverbs, adjectives and verbs, as well as recapping old vocabulary to keep it in our long-term memories ready for whenever we need to use it.
J'espère que vous aimerez ce cours
-
I hope you enjoy this course
Merci

Description
Welcome to course 15 :)
This is the fifteenth instalment of the 3 Minute French series, and it's made up of lessons 126 to 134.
In this course, we're going to learn lots of new verbs, adjectives, nouns and adverbs, but we're also going to look in more detail at some of what we've already learnt.
With languages, it's often not a good idea to learn everything there is about a word or a phrase the first time you see it, as this can be overwhelming and you'll miss out on the beauty of discovering things at a more natural pace.
When we first learnt the verb "faire" back in course 2, we learnt that it means to make. We then practised with this meaning until it was part of our long-term memory. A few courses later, we learnt that faire actually has two meanings; it can mean to make or to do. We then practised with this new meaning until we became very familiar with it. Then, a bit later on, we discovered we can use faire with a verb to mean that we're getting something done.
If we'd learnt all of this in one go, it would have been too overwhelming and we wouldn't have been able to take it all in. However, because we spread it out, we were able to digest the small nuggets of information more naturally over time. This is what language learning is all about - learning small nuggets of information, becoming expert at them and then adding new information to it. When we were children, we didn't learn to speak in one weekend. Even though we were constantly surrounded by our mother language all day every day for years on end, our brains didn't let us take it all in in one sitting, and this is because it would have been too overwhelming. Instead, babies learn singular words first, then they start to put two or three words together, then they might be able to use them to ask a question, gradually acquiring, practising and mastering the language at a natural pace.
Well, in this course, we're going to be doing a lot of discovery. We're going to be expanding our knowledge in areas we're already familiar with. We'll learn new ways to talk about things, we'll look at nuanced differences between verbs such as
connaître and savoir (which both mean to know) and we'll take a more detailed look at some seemingly simpler parts of the language.
By simpler parts of the language, I mean the words that we don't really give a lot of thought to: the articles. Articles are the words for "the", "a" and "some", and we're going to be looking at the rules that govern their usage. We'll look at the differences between how they're used in French and English, and we'll learn some new terminology, such as countable and uncountable nouns, to help us understand the article rules. As well as the three types of articles, we're going to be looking at possessive adjectives (the words for my, your, his.) and possessive pronouns (the words for mine, yours, his.).
A very interesting and highly useful lesson in this course is the lesson in which we're focusing on something called
cognates
. Cognates are words that are the same (or similar) in two languages. For example, the word "restaurant" is a cognate, since it's the same in both French and English. We're going to learn lots of cognate rules that will allow you to translate thousands of English words into French.
As well as all this, there are also lots of new nouns, adverbs, adjectives and verbs, we're going to look at talking about sports in French and some new ways to give your opinion. There's much more, as well, but I've waffled on too much in this section already, so I'll let you click the "Start learning now" button, so you can get started with course 15.
Merci beaucoup :)

Description
Welcome to course 16 :)This is the sixteenth course in the 3 Minute French series, and it has lessons 135 to 143, but it also has four extra half lessons, just because I couldn't fit everything into the main lessons! It's the longest course so far, and we really shift up a gear in our learning. In course 16, I introduce a major new learning technique that appears in every lesson from now on: Comprehension exercisesEvery lesson in course 16 begins with a short comprehension exercise where we work through a text together to see what we can learn. The texts are based on a range of topics, but they contain lots of vocabulary and structures you'll already be familiar with. They also contain new vocab and new structures, so they're great for building our language knowledge. We start this course with a recap of the tenses we've learnt so far: the present tense, the present perfect tense, the imperative and the reflecxive verbs. Then, we move on to a new tense: the imperfect tense. The imperfect tense is the second past tense in French, and in this course we're going to learn how to form it and how to use it. We'll also look at the difference between the imperfect tense and the present perfect tense because, even though they're both used to talk about the past, they are very different. We're going to continue looking at the prepositions à and de, and we'll see how certain verbs change depending on which preposition we use. The difference between parler à and parler de, or the difference between penser à and penser de are very interesting to look at.In this course, we're also going to look at the fifth French structure, which it might not surprise you to learn, involves the imperfect tense. We're going to be recapping the word depuis and how we used it with the present tense to say how long you've been doing something. And then, we're going to use it with the imperfect tense to say how long you had been doing something. We're going to be looking at some new topics about our home life, and we'll get a Vocabulary Expansion Sheet full of words and phrases based around household chores. There's also much more that we're going to be looking at including plenty new words, looking at the word "pour" in front of verbs, a new negative expression "ne . plus" and how the meaning of the adjective propre can change depending on whether you place it in front of the noun or after it.Anyway, I hope you enjoy :)
